Chapter 23: Ministry of Toast Revisited

<=Chapter 22 {Tabl. o' Contents} Chapter 24=>

The group of the majority of Danadians stood on floor three dozen. “Yep, it's definitely a factory,” said Nathan.

“So who made it?” asked Zandria. Jessica and 7ollion shared a quick glance, and communicated nonverbally their intent to not rat out Toaster-Man.

Then Toaster-Man ratted himself out. “I did!” he said proudly. “Welcome to the Ministry of Toast!” Everybody stared at him, with varying mixtures of shock and confusion.

Jeffery, who had been in sort of a funk until then, snapped out of it, and said angrily. “You realize you just broke literally the only law we have. Looks like it's back to court.” He sighed.

“Wait, what about the bowling ally?” asked Zach.

“Make it on the next floor,” said Nathan. So Zach went up the stairs. A moment later he went back down.

“Yeah that's taken too,” said Zach. “Still factory.”

“How many floors does this take up??” asked Jeffery.

“Thirteen,” said Toaster-Man. “Don't worry, all of them were needed.”

“Needed for what??” Jeffery asked incredulously

“The Ministry of Toast,” said Toaster-Man. “Try to keep up.”

And so another trial commenced, back down on the first floor. This being an actual criminal case, a jury was chosen, randomly from those present. I'll spare you the details of this trial, mainly because everyone argued circles around Toaster-Man, and it was kind of embarrassing, even to watch. Years later nobody in Danada would remember the trial itself, save for the fact that it came to Jeffery's closing statement.

“Look the fact is everybody wants to forgive you. But, we are running out of floors. We can dream and dream all day, but someday we're going to run out, and we will have to start building. We can build them on the top or we can build on the ground or underground but we need to do something. It has been three days and we have filled nearly half the building. You did not have approval and you took something that was the world and turned it into your ego. You can't be part of this society. You already aren't. And I'm sorry; I really am.”

And thus the jury reached a verdict. Toaster-Man was sentenced to banishment from sight of the Leaning Tower of Pizza.
