(Formatting on this Blog is stupid & I can't get the font consistent with the earlier chapters. Oh well.)
As is often the case in these sorts of worlds, time passes at different speeds relative to reality. I had planned to come back in a few days or so to find a bit more of time having had passed. Possibly a few months or so. But of course as is often the case life gets in the way. It was four months since I returned.
“Where the hell
were you?” asked Toaster-Man. “These guys have been driving me
insane for who knows how long.”
<3.2 years,>
said Pudding dryly. <It was a very interesting psychological
experiment.>
“Yes I’m sure
it was,” I said. “But not being a psychology major I didn’t
want to write that part, as I’m sure it would annoy people who
actually were. I wanted them to develop characters so that I don’t
start my story with a bunch of generic people.”
<Well there were
basically three phases. After the questioning died down they were
obsessed with finding the perfect names for themselves.>
“At first they
were really stupid and corny screenname-type names,” Toaster-Man
said.
<But then they
decided to just name themselves after normal reality names.>
“That’s
probably for the best,” I said. “So that was the second stage?
What’s the third?”
“Oh they’ve
just been playing video games and surfing the internet ever since,”
said Toaster-Man.
<They have
developed a sort of culture, however,> said Pudding.
“Hmm,
fascinating. I would observe it and therefore write about it, but
frankly I don’t see the point. Time to move on to the part where
they actually go down to Danada.”
“So you’re
going to do that gameshow thing then?” asked Toaster-Man.
“Well yeah, but
I’m just going to leave it implied. It really won’t make for good
writing. Maybe I’ll go back and write it later? I don’t know.”
Anyway, new chapter
time.
